In May, The Faith of Graffiti (74.9), an essay on New York’s graffiti artists (conceived by Lawrence Schiller with photographs by Mervyn Kurlansky and Jon Naar) is published simultaneously in Esquire and book form.

In October, Mailer covers the “The Rumble in the Jungle,” the Muhammad Ali-George Foreman heavyweight fight in Zaire which Ali wins by a knockout in the eighth round to regain the championship.

Laura Adams publishes the first major primary and secondary bibliography of Mailer’s work, Norman Mailer: A Comprehensive Bibliography.
