“Hundred Injured: 178 Are Arrested as Guardsmen Join in Using Tear Gas.” Article by J. Anthony Lukas. New York Times, 29 August, Sec L. pp. 1, 23. Report on the riots at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, including a description of the Grant Park Rally where Mailer, Allen Ginsberg, Jean Genet, William Burroughs and Dick Gregory spoke. Mailer said: “I’m a little sick about all this and also a little mad, but I’ve got a deadline on a long piece and I’m not going to go out and march and get arrested. I just came here to salute all of you.” The piece referred to is Miami and the Siege of Chicago (68.25).
