"Mailer Will Star with His Movies". Article-interview by Nan Robertson. New York Times, 19 January, Sec. C, p. 17. Mailer discusses the making of Maidstone (71.28) on the occasion of its showing, along with his 1967 film, Beyond the Law, and a documentary, Norman Mailer: A Sanction to Write, at the Thalia Theater in New York. Mailer tells Robertson his current opinion of Maidstone: "Now I think it's a terribly flawed and imperfect movie that's really interesting for people who are obsessed by film. The production is an interesting idea, made by a man who didn't know how to make movies". See 81.19, 84.3.
