“Norman Mailer Enlists His Private Army to Act in Film.” Article by J. Anthony Lukas. New York Times, 23 July, Sec. M, p. 35. First of several accounts of the filming of Mailer’s movie, Maidstone, in the Hamptons on Long Island, New York. Mailer is quoted at length: “We hope to prove that one can make a beautiful, tasteful, resonant, touching, evocative picture with cinéma vérité methods in four days. If we can do it, a lot of people out in Hollywood are going to commit suicide.” Rpt: Mailer included an excerpt in Maidstone: A Mystery (71.28). See 68.15–68.17, 68.28, 71.30. See 13.2, 400–404.
