“To Mailer, Joyce Was ‘a Wild Sound Track.’ ” Article-interview by Robert Taylor. Boston-Globe, 14 June. Speaking at a Joyce program at the Universalist Church in Provincetown, Mailer remembered catching “some of Harry Levin’s Joyce lectures” at Harvard, and that James Joyce, Marcel Proust and Thomas Mann were the three great writers during his college years. Mailer also read from his novel-in-progress, Ancient Evenings (83.18).
