“Norman Mailer on ‘Tough Guys Don’t Dance.” Interview with Joe Leydon. Houston Post, 12 July. Mailer says that his intention was to make a film “that didn’t fit into a comfortable film category” because “life is like that. I think we’re always asking ourselves when we get into extreme situations, ‘Am I in a farce? Or am I in a tragedy? Is this funny, or is this desperate?’”
