“Controversial Norman Mailer Invades ‘David Frost.” Article by Jon Burlingame. Newport (R.I.) Daily News, 24 January, C-9. Advance report of Mailer’s comments on the David Frost 24 January television program. Addressing Japanese economic strength and advertising, Mailer said “In America, we’re so good at advertising and promotion . . . The attitude has been, ‘Just make anything. Just get it out there, and we’ll sell it for you.’ . . . The real problem we have vis-a-vis the Japanese—the reason their products are better—is that they were happily immune to much of advertising for many, many years.” See 92.2, 92.3.
