“Mailer Older, Not Mellower.” Article-interview by Kent Jackson. Hazleton (Penn.) Standard-Speaker, 20 November. Another report on Mailer’s speech at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The most notable quote came in answer to a question about whether he was still negative about women. “I have five daughters and have been married six times. The only trouble I’ve had with women is I started out with an extraordinarily elevated view of them. I’ve come to the conclusion that women are no better than men, but I have nothing against them.”
