Each of the Church’s dictums reveal the opposite reality, the opposite thrust. So the Church making suicide a mortal sin confessed that the tendency of its total perversion upon nature was to drive its believers to suicide. Given the psychology of despising oneself in order to avoid hell, the end of the road is the act of total loathing for the self—one’s own death. But the Church could hardly permit this—no institution can last very long if its members advertise it by destroying themselves.
