Lipton’s Journal/February 1, 1955/416
I have a hunch the next novel may be the worst of all to write because to do it I will probably have to quit Lipton’s and go back to depression. If I don’t it will all come too easily and be too surface. But to go with open arms back into depression! I don’t see how I can do it. In other words I don’t see how I can start a new book yet. At least, I will have the experience of tuning The Deer Park once again, and that may give hints and intimations of what to expect with and without Lipton’s.
