The word is a flat non-conductor put across the infinite variety of experience felt in the fraction of a second. Crudely, very crudely, it is the equivalent of a cheap phonograph’s rendition of a note to the sound in all its variation and multitude on hi-fidelity. Which is why many intellectuals abhor hi-fi. They prefer the flat passage of the word.
