Vomiting may be the orgasm of displeasure. It is even possible that it could be pleasurable too if one were able consciously to see it as a pleasurable action of the involuntary system. But indeed the sexual orgasm and the act of vomiting are proscribed by society as opposites, and all the weight of our consciousness pushes us to believe one pleasurable, the other painful.

Perhaps this is even true of pain. I remember the time I was able to think in Reggie Moss’s dentist chair that my tooth being drilled was actually enjoying the sensation, and indeed I succeeded in finding it at least half pleasant, admittedly half-unpleasant.
