“An Open Letter to JFK and Fidel Castro.” Village Voice, 27 April, 1, 14-15. Rpt: 63.37, where Mailer notes in “Appendix B—Projects and Places” that the letter was submitted to and rejected by New York Times, New York Herald Tribune and New York Post. He also notes that the Castro letter was finished in November 1960 and the J.F.K. letter in April 1961; Journal for the Protection of All Beings, no. 1, the “Love-Shot Issue.” Published “irregularly” by City Lights Books, San Francisco. The editors, Michael McClure, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and David Meltzer, acknowledge that the letter originally appeared in Village Voice; 98.7 (partial, but including comment on the timing of the letter’s appearance).
