James Toback worked as a freelance journalist and later as a Creative Writing Instructor at City College of New York, after graduating from Harvard in 1966. An interview for Esquire with Jim Brown led to the publication in 1971 of Jim: The Author's Self-Centered Memoir of the Great Jim Brown. He followed this with a series of successful screenplays, including The Gambler and Bugsy, as well as a string of writing and directing credits that include the 1978 film Fingers and the more recent films Two Guys and a Girl and Harvard Man. The 2009 documentary Tyson is Toback’s latest directorial venture.
