Talk:Mythic Mailer in An American Dream
Preview and Minor Edits
@Dillbug: I see you’re doing your edits on this — good work. Before you save, be sure to preview — this will save a lot of database space if you fix typos, etc. before saving. Also, most of your edits are minor, so you should select "This is a minor edit" under the summary. This is important. Thanks. —Grlucas (talk) 22:01, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Grlucas: I am trying to add my citations but the system keeps logging me out, even when I click on the box that says keep me logged in. Please take a look at what I have cited so far and let me know if I am citing correctly. I will note from now own these are minor edits.--Dillbug (talk) 23:03, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Dillbug: That's odd. You might try another browser. Which one are you using? —Grlucas (talk) 00:25, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Dillbug: There are errors throughout, I'm afraid. Look at how I did things at the beginning. Be sure to preview before saving. The last part of the essay is strewn with footnote typos: mostly forgetting one } at the end of the footnote. Footnotes always go after punctuation. —Grlucas (talk) 00:31, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
@Grlucas: I think I have made the corrections needed on the citations. Please review one more time.--Dillbug (talk) 18:22, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Dillbug: Getting better. I know this can be meticulous at times, but it's worth doing correctly. The works cited are still incomplete (none, other than the ones I changed are using the templates) and there's a weird Mailer citation that doesn't go to anything. Should I be AAD? If so, it needs to be added, and it's just 1965. A bit more work yet, but you're making great progress. —Grlucas (talk) 20:58, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Grlucas: I don't understand what you mean by none of the citations are using templates, nor can I find where the weird Mailer citation is? Also, what do you mean by 'Should I be AAD? If so, it needs to be added, and it's just 1965.'? Please help!--Dillbug (talk) 17:40, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
@Grlucas: Dr. Lucas, I am extremely frustrated right now. Everything I try to accomplish is wrong. I am really having difficulty with the citation editing. Also, why can I no longer switch to visual editor?--Dillbug (talk) 17:08, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Dillbug: Sorry about that. I'm not sure what would cause your visual editor to disappear. Perhaps you could try another browser? What's the issue with citation editing? —Grlucas (talk) 20:44, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
@Grlucas: I seem to have a better handle on everything today (finally!). I think I have corrected the citations, except for two of which I have not been able to figure out how to add the second set of pages. Please review what I have done and let me know if I am on track and how to fix the page errors for Adams and Jung. Thank you for being so patient with me while I figure out what I am supposed to be working on.--Dillbug (talk) 16:03, 7 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Dillbug: Good deal. It just takes practice and persistence. For the citations: there are extra numbers at the end of three that seems to be page numbers. Check those. Also, remove the quotation marks in titles. You see they are unnecessary as the software will insert them if they are needed. All citations, too, must have “|ref=harv” in them in order for the shortened footnote form to work. Finally, you need to see to the odd Mailer reference (e.g.,
Mailer & 1964-65, p. 83.
) that is used a lot but (1) doesn't have a corresponding entry in works cited, and (2) uses a span of dates which will not work with sfn. I assume this is AAD? If so, it just needs to be 1965, as that's when it was published. —Grlucas (talk) 19:17, 7 April 2019 (UTC)- @Grlucas: I think I fixed the entry for
Mailer & 1964-65, p. 83
, added /|ref harv to all of the citations, and I don't have a clue how to include the second set of dates. I've tried using section-date, work-date, etc. That is why I asked you how to include them in the references requiring two dates.--Dillbug (talk) 02:07, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
