Robert M. Lindner was a psychoanalyst and author of several works of popular psychology, including Rebel without a Cause (New York: Grune & Stratton, 1944), and Prescription for Rebellion (New York: Rinehart, 1952). Lindner (1914-56) and Mailer met in 1953 and became close friends.
