First of several accounts of the filming of Mailer’s movie, Maidstone, in the Hamptons on Long Island, New York. Mailer is quoted at length: “We hope to prove that one can make a beautiful, tasteful, resonant, touching, evocative picture with cinéma vérité methods in four days. If we can do it, a lot of people out in Hollywood are going to commit suicide.” Rpt: Mailer included an excerpt in Maidstone: A Mystery (71.28). See 68.1568.17, 68.28, 71.30. See 13.2, 400–404.
