“Installment Five: A Catenary of Manners.” Esquire, May, 124–127, 143–144, 146–152. A summary by Esquire editors of the first four installments is found on 158. The summary concludes with the line, “The Dial Press will publish An American Dream in August.” Dial did publish the novel, but not until the following March. The 12 October Publishers Weekly contains an advertisement for the novel and gives a January publication date.
