Talk:An American Dream Expanded/Timeline of Events, 1962–1966

From Project Mailer

@Grlucas: Please help me with two editing issues for Appendix III. First, breaking a long entry at the midpoint so that it is somewhat centered under the main heading & the year sub heading. And, making my new second line match the format of the first for which I used {{in5|60}}. Thanks.(Dmcgonagill (talk) 19:28, 2 April 2019 (UTC))

@Dmcgonagill: Hm, that's too much, methinks. How about a table? Did you see another timeline you're using as a model? The problem with doing it this way is that you're formatting it for the width of your screen — make your width narrower and you'll see what I mean. It needs to be able to work on all-sized screens. Make sense? Here's another rule: no more <div> tags at all, please. In fact, no more HTML, OK? Use wiki formatting only. Thanks. 😁 —Grlucas (talk) 21:33, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
@Grlucas: Using Norman_Mailer:_Important_Dates as an example. Please see the first line & tell me if that is better. Thanks.(Dmcgonagill (talk) 11:46, 3 April 2019 (UTC))
@Dmcgonagill: Maybe something like the Timeline of historical geopolitical changes might be better? (Headers should not be bolded.) —Grlucas (talk) 11:56, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
@Grlucas: Ok. Done. This was a lot of work but I think it looks sharp. Please advise on further editing.(Dmcgonagill (talk) 19:40, 3 April 2019 (UTC))
@Dmcgonagill: Wow, looking a lot better — the work paid off! Couple of things: why are the dates centered? Also, links should be the next goal. Some can be linked here (on PM), like titles of books. Other items could be linked to Wikipedia, using, for example, [[w:William F. Buckley Jr.|William F. Buckley Jr.]] (notice the :w in front). Great work! —Grlucas (talk) 20:20, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
@Dmcgonagill: Looking good. Note: only link something once, please, like Esquire. Thanks, and sorry I didn't say so before. —Grlucas (talk) 00:38, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
@Grlucas: Ok no worries, I can correct those things. Should I even link things like Chicago, Soviet Union, ect? or just things more related to the topic like the articles, poems, people? Thanks(Dmcgonagill (talk) 15:40, 4 April 2019 (UTC))
@Grlucas: I added as many link as I could. I did not add links to geographic locations. I wanted to link NM writings: "Ten Thousand Words a Minute", "An Existential Evening", "The First Presidential Paper", and "In the Red Light", but I could not find a page created for them yet. I feel done. Please advise if there is anything else to add. Thanks.(Dmcgonagill (talk) 19:22, 4 April 2019 (UTC))
@Dmcgonagill: This is a fabulous job. There are couple of inconsistencies (like do commas go inside or outside an ending quotation mark (inside)) and a couple of items that still could be linked, like Beverly Bentley, but in all I think we can move it into place. —Grlucas (talk) 20:54, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
@Grlucas: Commas issue edited and Beverly Bentley linked. You move it, not me, correct? Thanks!(Dmcgonagill (talk) 14:16, 5 April 2019 (UTC))
@Dmcgonagill: OK, all moved. It looks great. There might be a couple of more links to be done, but I'll leave that to you, if interested. —Grlucas (talk) 15:24, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
