A remark on why psychoanalysts have such difficulty in treating psychopaths. Apart from the dilemma of whether a psychopath with his special knowledge can really bear to enter the world is the other premise that the analyst is a concealed psychopath, and so in attempting to treat the open psychopath an enormous effect is exercised upon the analyst—dimly he senses that his own psychopathy will be revealed if he allows his sensitivity. So his sensitivity clams up, and with it his ability to reach the psychopath.
