“Enfant Terrible at Notre Dame.” Article by Jack Altman. Chicago Sun-Times, 7 April, Sec. 4, 1, 10. At Notre Dame University where his film Beyond the Law premiered on 2 April, Mailer spoke about President Johnson’s announcement that he would run for another term. Mailer also reflected on his motives for making experimental films: “I never think about what I want to do . . . When you are doing something you like, the last thing you should do is ask yourself why. You do it because your instinct tells you to. Sometimes you work up a theory afterwards.” See 68.6c, 68.6d, 68.7a.
