Thomas Staley, director of the Harry Ransom Center, described the Mailer papers as “the Platonic conception of what an archive should be.” Mailer said he decided to sell his papers to the Ransom Center because it was “the greatest collection of literary archives to be found in America.” See 05.3, 05.4, 05.6, 05.9, 05.12, 05.13.
