“Author Norman Mailer Talks Shop at Wilkes.” Article-interview by Heidi E. Ruckno. Citizens’ Voice, 27 June. Speaking at the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center during his fourth visit to Wilkes, Mailer centered his comments on the writing life. “Characters must keep developing and plot will take care of itself,” he said, adding that if an author wrote a novel with a particular story in mind that the possibilities would be limited. “Our love of plot comes out of a need to show the cause and effect that our lives often do not have.”
