“A President Who Lives in Fear of His Wife.” Article-interview by Richard S. Ehrlich. Bangkok Post 25 September. Report of Mailer’s press conference before his keynote speech at the SeaWrite Awards at the Oriental Hotel in Bangkok, both on 24 September. Most of his comments dealt with the Monica Lewinsky scandal. He predicted that Clinton would not be impeached because he was immensely popular, and “a prodigious soap opera hero.” He described Lewinsky as “zaftig,” and noted that he thought Hillary’s interrogation of her husband would be “very fierce. Something about the set of her mouth.” Asked about Special Prosecutor Starr’s report, he said “it was a rather interesting document. I thought, ‘There’s a guy who’s afraid of his wife.’ It made him human to me.”
