Stormin’ Norman Defends his ‘Castle.’New York Daily News, 26 January. Mailer extends his feud with New York Times critic Michiko Kakutani in his comments to this paper. He says that his angry comments directed at her made her ineligible to review his Hitler novel—the Times won’t let their critics review books by friends or enemies—so the task fell to another critic at the paper, Janet Maslin, who gave it a mixed to poor review. “Janet Maslin is a Kakutani clone,” Mailer said. “You can quote me on that.”
