Epstein talks at length about the future of digital publishing, and also describes Mailer when he first knew him: “Brilliant, difficult, dangerous . . . You never know if he was going to hit you or kiss you. But he had a wonderful mind. What you look for in these people is originality, a voice nobody had before.” The writer asked Mailer about Epstein: “He’s so damned intelligent. I wasn’t used to working with someone who might be a lot brighter than I am.”
