“Is New Mailer Book Fiction, in Fact?” Article-interview by Tony Schwartz. New York Times, 26 October, Sec. C, p. 24. Mailer, Bill Guthrie of Little, Brown, Jason Epstein of Random House, Townsend Hoopes of the Association of American Publishers and John W. Aldridge of the University of Michigan discuss the merits of calling 79.14 a “true life novel.” Mailer says, “To me, nonfiction provides answers and novels illumine questions. I think my book does the latter.” One of Mailer’s many reflections on fiction/nonfiction. See 80.4.
