“Norman Mailer: A Literary Lion Roars.” Article-interview by Carolyn T. Hughes. Poets & Writers, March-April, 40–45. Excellent interview in which Mailer comments on his lack of involvement in the writing and editing of his wife Norris Church’s novel, Windchill Summer, published in 2000; the parallels between boxing and writing, other writers, including Bellow and Stendhal; and the role of the unconscious in his work: “We always know much more than we think we know—otherwise we couldn’t be writers. If I had to depend on my quotidian brain I wouldn’t show anyone the results.”
