“Looking for Inspiration for His New Book, Mailer Visits Campus.” Article by Tammy Polonsky. Daily Pennsylvanian, 21 March, 1, 5. Visiting the University of Pennsylvania for four days of lectures and class visits, Mailer began with a dialogue with students focusing on communism, capitalism, and U.S. race relations. Robert F. Lucid, English professor and Mailer’s authorized biographer, joined him in conducting the 20 March dialogue in Meyerson Hall. Urging President Clinton to make race relations the keynote of his re-election campaign, Mailer said that until black-white tensions are resolved, “nothing else will get better.” See spring 1983 entries, 95.395.7, 95.12.
