“Norman Wasn’t Stormin’.” Article by John Engstrom. Boston Globe, 8 March, 57, 62. Report on the first staged reading of “Strawhead” (86.25) at Loeb Drama Center in Boston. This two-act play, written in collaboration with Richard Hannum, is based on Of Women and Their Elegance (80.15). It has never been commercially produced, but has been staged at Actors’ Studio in New York and in Provincetown, with Mailer’s daughter Kate portraying Marilyn Monroe. Mailer answered questions after the reading and said, “Women never dismiss the notion of being ‘elegant’ without a slight doubt in their hearts.”
