“Do Facts and Fiction Mix?” Article-interview by Michiko Kakutani. New York Times Book Review, 27 January, 3, 28–29. Mailer, along with Irving Howe, Michael Wood, William Styron, John Hersey, E.L. Doctorow, William Shawn and Michael Korda are quoted in a round-up article on the issue of how fact and fiction are and should be mixed in narrative. Mailer defends The Executioner’s Song (79.14) as a novel, saying “God was at least as good a novelist as I am.” See 79.17.
