“Mailer Enjoys a Day in the Sun at MacDowell Colony.” Article by unidentified writer. New York Times, 20 August, 20. Report on the 18 August awarding of the MacDowell Medal “in recognition of the tremendous body and wide variety of work he has published to date.” Mailer “delivered an acceptance speech that obviously captivated” the audience, including comments about an idea for a novel about Watergate, his 50th birthday party, and the individual who presented the medal, John Leonard.
