“Problems of Writing ‘Marilyn.’” Article by Stephen Isaacs. New York Post, 19 July, Sec. B, pp. 1, 13. The longest and most sympathetic of several articles on Mailer’s press conference called to urge a fuller investigation of Marilyn Monroe’s death. Mailer also defended his methods of researching Marilyn (73.30), calling it “one of my best books,” and criticized Mike Wallace for the editing of Mailer’s appearance on 60 Minutes. In response to Wallace’s comment that he had undertaken the book only for money, Mailer noted that he was paid a royalty of four percent for 73.30, as opposed to his customary fifteen percent.
