Deborah Martinson’s research in auto/biography and fiction informs her research and her teaching. Her books focus on personal, historical and political contexts: Lillian Hellman: A Life with Foxes and Scoundrels (2005), In the Presence of Audience: The Self in Diaries and Fiction (2003) and recently completed Virginia Durr: Southern Radical Come Hell or High Water, a life of the white Alabama civil rights leader. Martinson was an Associate Professor of English Writing at Occidental College in Los Angeles until her death in 2014.
