Michael Nixon is a retired tax attorney. He was on active duty in the Marine Corps from 1968 to 1972; he did not serve in Vietnam. In addition to his law degrees, he holds an MA in creative writing from Wilkes University. In 2016, he was selected as a Norman Mailer Center Nonfiction Fellow. He lives in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. “Parris Island 1968” is an excerpt from his yet unpublished memoir, Nowhere Else to Go: Parris Island and the Making of a Marine.
