Dear Members of the Mailer Society,
Happy New Year! With this email, we begin our annual Norman Mailer Society Membership Drive. I’d like to first thank you for your ongoing support of the NMS, which continues to thrive because of your involvement.
I know many of you are anxiously awaiting Volume 11 of The Mailer Review, and I am pleased to announce that after a number of unforeseen delays and obstacles over the past year, the volume is now back on track and headed into production, with an anticipated mailing date this spring. Thereafter, Phil Sipiora and his staff will directly begin work on producing Vol. 12 of the Review. Thank you all for your patience amid these delays—we are excited for you all to read the next issue.
After our successful annual conference in Macon, GA this past year, we are also looking forward to our 2019 Conference, which will be held at Wilkes University, October 10th-12th, 2019. More information, including an official Call for Papers, will be coming soon.
Speaking of the conference–and of Mailer research in general–I also want to take the opportunity to remind everyone about the Barry Leeds Travel Fund, established by family and friends to honor the memory of the late Barry H. Leeds, one of the founders of the Mailer Society. In 2019, the Fund will award $100 travel grants to students attending the annual Mailer Society conference. The Society will also accept applications for a $500 award to scholars traveling to the University of Texas-Austin to study the Mailer papers at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center. A brief letter explaining the applicant’s research project should be sent to Society Board members, Dr. Robert Begiebing (rbegiebing [at] comcast [dot] net
) and Dr. Bonnie Culver (bonnie [dot] culver [at] wilkes [dot] edu
) by May 1, 2019.
In the meantime, I hope you’ll consider renewing your membership in the Norman Mailer Society this year. Membership in the Society runs from January through December, and our membership dues remain as low as always. See below for rate and payment information, and feel free to reach out if you have questions.
Membership dues are as follows:
- Student ($10)
- Individual ($30)
- Couple ($35)
- LIFE Individual ($300)
If you prefer to send a check for annual membership dues, a 2019 Membership Dues Form is attached. Please download it and follow the payment and mailing instructions. Current Individual LIFE members need not complete a Membership Dues Form. A copy of The Mailer Review comes with your 2019 membership. You can also make your membership payment through PAYPAL.
All the best,
Maggie
