Dear Roger,&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;Mailer met Roger Shattuck, the art critic, in Brooklyn in the 1950s. The review in the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Village Voice&amp;#039;&amp;#039; appeared on 1963. The three novels named in the first paragraph, were written by, respectively, Joseph Heller (1923-2000), James T. Farrell (1904-1979) and Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961).  Mailer and his daughter Susan translated and published “Lament for Ignacio Sanchez Mejias” by Federico Garcia Lorca (1898-1936) in &amp;#039;&amp;#039;The Poetry Bag&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (winter 1967-68). Stephen Spender (1909-1995), the poet, was editor of the British publication &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Queen Magazine&amp;#039;&amp;#039; in the early 1960s. He published some of Mailer’s poems there in April 1962. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832), the German man of letters, is greatly admired by Mailer.
