Cushing’s by-line says &#039;&#039;Los Angeles Times&#039;&#039; and this piece apparently appeared there first. Reflecting on his age, [[Norman Mailer|Mailer]] says that being “fifty caused a long, continuous woe. Fifty had an awful sound to it. Worse than sixty. Sixty feels all right. Forty felt great. Thirty felt lousy.
